General Description |
The Wall is oriented in SE>NW direction and was identified on the geomagnetic imagery already. Its preserved width ranges from ~40 to ~90cm. The preserved height also clearly differs from S to N as the protecting soil deposit on top of the is more substantial in the N of SQ 176904. In SQ 176904 the wall is preserved in a length of ~8.6m, the wall is slightly curving in E direction. The wall consist of different sized stones, that are not the same stone material as well. No clear layout, compound or masonry is present. The stones are irregularly put, the space in between the stones is filled with the same dark-brown clayey soil, that was present in the fillings on top of the wall (see LGR:0296). At some spots baked bricks are present in the walls construction. The general layout of the wall is sloping upwards in W direction. The wall is set in the foundation pit Locus:176904:016 For general discussion of the walls build structure and its interpretation, please see LGR:0304 |
Boundaries (Contrast, Topography) | As the wall is oriented in SE > NW direction, the walls occurrence in SQ 176904 is limited to the N by the squares excavation edge. To the S the wall is presumably lost to destruction, due to its closeness to todays surface. |
