Description | Two fragments of ivory, found together. One has a an oval shape 1.8 wide, 1.8 long (broken) and 0.9 thick. Broken on one edge. Two opposite faces are flat, one of which shows a decorative motif resembling a palmette, possibly part of a larger composition of a tree of life? The other fragment is 1.8 long, 1.5 wide (widest point) and 0.5 thick. It shows a stem 0.9 wide opening up into what looks like an eolic style capital, which is partially broken. The back is completely flat indicating this object was applied to something else and was not all round. *After restoration we realised it was actually one single piece: a palmette with stem (AS 24-1-2020) |
